Halloween Crafting

Halloween Crafting

Hello friends,

Spooky season is almost upon us. Decorating the house is in full swing, costumes are being organised & party games are in the planning for Halloween night.

This is a really fun & exciting time for the kids but for parents it can sometimes feel like a lot to organise &  fulfill expectations for this spooky season. Halloween celebrations when we were young were kept simple & inexpensive. A bin bag with a cheap plastic mask that would cut your lip & wet your face with condensation seemed enough for our trick or treating adventures.

Games were simply the - dunking for apples and or money (the fifty pence piece being the best coin to retrieve!) plus my favourite, the flour mountain & grape game. These days the black bin liner won't cut it & kids want more. Here at Lilly & Bright we still try to keep some of our decorations simple & DIY plus it avoids unnecessary plastics.

We've put together a few really easy halloween crafts that we've made with my kids over the years. We've made a fair few ghosts it seems! If you have time during the midterm these might inspire you to make something with your kids that make lovely keepsakes & memories.

Ghost Tea Light Holders
Last year we made cute ghost tea light holders. They're very simple to make with quick air drying clay, I got mine from TIGER - the whole family can make one and you'll end up with a quirky family of ghosts.

You can put a battery operated tea light underneath to make them light up & flicker. Here is a link with step by step instructions on how to make them: Ghost Tea Light Holders Instructions

 FIMO Clay Ornaments

We had some fun using glow in the dark FIMO clay to make little Halloween ornaments including skulls, pumpkins & ghosts. You can buy it in most art supply shops or find it online Glow in the Dark FIMO Clay

Cute Toilet Roll Cats & Bats

This is a good one for younger kids. Here's a clip on how to make the CATS:

Ghost / Pumpkin Bunting with googly eyes.

Get your kids to draw out ghosts, pumpkin shapes or any halloween shapes onto a card. Get them to explore different expressions with the faces. I loved the naive line drawn so I cut around it leaving the outline. We stuck googly eyes on and made bunting with some string. So simple & a lovely keepsake.

Here's another paper chain decoration we made with funny little ghosts hanging off it.

Paper Plate Ghosts
Paper plates, toilet roll, black / colour paper, prit stick and googly eyes. Easy Peasy!

Painted Pumpkins:
This is one of my favourite Halloween crafts that I did with my daughter a few years ago, instead of carving the pumpkins we had some fun decorating them instead.
If you're stuck for some ideas pinterest has plenty of inspiration to get you going.

Wishing you all a fun & spooky Halloween.
